Discover the Truly Reclaimed label
People are increasingly driven by environmental concerns. The Truly Reclaimed mark assures that a product or batch of material is genuinely antique or reclaimed and therefore offers a genuine reduction in carbon emissions. Look out for the TR symbol displayed by TR dealers on certified reclaimed items and specific batches of reclaimed materials. New build and reclaimed renovation projects in hotels, restaurants, retail and other venues can also be TR certified and so display the TR symbol. Discover more here, Truly Reclaimed.
Salvo Fair:
The first Salvo Fair was held in 1997 in Surrey and until 2014 it was the only architectural salvage fair in the world. The Salvo Fair itself has been acknowledged by many as the best in its field for unique salvage, reclaimed building materials, decorative and garden antiques. Often featuring larger pieces of architectural salvage such as the Baltic Exchange and Westminster Bridge. For many years the fair was held at Knebworth House, Hertfordshire and then at the private estate of Sir William and Lady McApline, Buckinghamshire. The last original Salvo fair also included vintage fashion. Other events have since included, Salvo zones at other fairs and the digital Salvo Fest with pop-ups and talks from trade professionals, designers and celebrities worldwide. Follow @SalvoWEB on Instagram and subscribe to SalvoNEWS for any future Salvo Fair updates.
Detailed guide on how to create a SalvoWEB advert:
From your user control panel, select ‘Add a new item' to create your advert.
Add a short title, up to 6 images and a short description.
Choose the correct sector:
antique & reclaimed: items for sale - business users only
recraft & upcycled: new items made from reclaimed and salvaged materials - business users only
wanted: individual antique & reclaimed items or small specific batches wanted for a project or renovation.
dismantling & demolition alerts: items for sale and still insitu. You can add a guide price or 'open to offers' in the advert description.
new, replica & repro: new or unused items under ten years old - business users only.
theft alerts: stolen items only and must include a crime reference number: this is obtained from the police when reporting the theft.
Choosing the correct category:
For a guide check where similar items are already listed on SalvoWEB.
Items over £10,000 choose ‘Fine Architectural’. Mixed reclaimed items and lower value items opt for ‘Salvage.’ New & Repro is for items under 10 years old.
Not sure about the price? Check similar items already for sale or get a valuation from an auction house or dealer, add a guide price and write 'open to offers' in the description.
Confirm to make the advert live on the website.
Note: Before you confirm opt to tick the box to email your advert to interested antique and reclamation dealers who have subscribed to receive Salvo email alerts.
Select ‘Pending' to save an advert until you are ready to make it live.
Select ‘Archive’ to remove the item from the website. Always archive adverts when items have been sold or no longer wanted.
Prospective buyers can contact sellers via email on the live advert 'Send Message' link or via telephone if added to the advert. Business users adverts are linked to their SalvoWEB directory entry with full contact details. Business users working from home can hide their contact address on the live website.
Check your spam folder in case messages have gone astray; if you have Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail or other free email providers their basic spam filters are less refined and can often be over harsh.
Private users can only sell items still insitu in the 'Demolition alert' sector; so items not yet dismantled and removed such as windows, doors, bathrooms, conservatories, complete buildings etc can be listed and a for sale guide price can be added to the description field. However when an item has been removed please archive your advert.
Business users can simply top up their SalvoWEB account at ‘Balances and Payments’ from their user menu via PayPal/credit card to 'Buy' SalvoWEB advertising. Select 'Listings' to 'Buy' a batch of adverts or 'Buy' in weeks on the advert itself to create featured enhanced listings with your topped up user account balance.
Changes: Choose ‘Edit’ on an advert to make changes and confirm to make these live.
SalvoWEB advert rules - the basics:
NEVER:
- use ALL CAPITALS LIKE THIS. Use normal upper case and lower case type.
- use special characters like ***** this, or like these L$$K!!!
- place urls (www.example-of-a-url.com) or social media links in the description.
- use the word 'cash' in any advert. (Unless the item you are selling is a 'cash register'.)
- include recognisable photos of people or pets in adverts.
- specify payment arrangements. Your trade advert on the Salvo website is for information only, it is not a contract or treaty to buy with terms and conditions.
ALL TRADE ADVERTS MUST COMPLY WITH local consumer protection laws and money laundering laws. Only advertise items owned by your business.
ALWAYS be accurate about where items are located.
ARCHIVE an advert once the item is Sold or no longer For Sale or Wanted.
BE TRUTHFUL on adverts. Do not lie, embellish or exaggerate in the advert description to over value an item. DO NOT use images that are not your own nor add 'dummy' low prices such as £1 or unrealistic high prices. Prices given should be a realistic guideprice but you can also add Price on Application (POA) to the advert description.
NEVER sell items on or made from species on the CITES protected list which includes endangered woods such as rosewood, elephant ivory, tortoiseshell, crocodile etc. See cites.org for the full current list.
ALWAYS use your FULL NAME or your correct BUSINESS NAME as contact details on your trade advert and keep them up to date.
SELLERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SAFETY: please check current UK government advice for seller safety compliance. For example: Do not sell products known to contain ASBESTOS on the Salvo website (See the UK and/or local government advice on Asbestos removal) - Gas Cookers for UK functional use must comply with gov.uk guidance and regulations regarding safety and all UK safety checks to be done by a person registered by Gas Safe. Lighting and all second-hand electrical appliances to meet legal safety requirements such as, where applicable, PAT test labels attached. Furniture made after 1950 to meet all fire and safety regulations on flammability etc. See UK and local government websites for full comprehensive selling safety requirements. If applicable, PAT test labels and fire safety labels must be attached and shown in the advert images.
NEVER:
- create a duplicate advert it must always be instead made into a featured enhanced listed advert.
- use adverts for general business promotion.
- add links to social media, websites or other marketplaces.
- use antique & reclaimed for sale sector adverts for new, replica or repro items including new building materials.
- use antique & reclaimed for sale sector adverts for secondhand items less than 10 years old that have never been used. (Instead use New & Repro)
- add delivery details or seller addresses to the advert description.
- use antique & reclaimed for sale sector adverts for items which are still insitu. Instead create a Demolition and Dismantling alert. ONLY Salvo members, signed up to the Salvo Code can create adverts with all images insitu - Look for the crane logo on Salvo member adverts.
- use antique & reclaimed for sale adverts for resawn or remachined flooring made from reclaimed timbers. (Instead use Recraft.)
- use long titles and descriptions. KEEP titles and descriptions SHORT and SIMPLE. Always advertise specific items or specific batches of items.
ONLY advertise a unique antique & reclaimed item, or a single lot of antique reclaimed or salvaged materials sold as one lot. AND IF measurements are too close to one of your existing adverts, the new advert may be treated as a duplicate. For example, 2 3/4ins bricks and 2 7/8ins bricks, or 6 7/8ins flooring and 7ins flooring.
DO NOT USE identical photos in different adverts. This will result in the adverts being treated as duplicate adverts, even if the written descriptions are different.
DO NOT refresh an old advert by duplicating on SalvoWEB. Instead make the original advert a featured enhanced listing - ONLY these adverts can be duplicated.
NOTE: Salvo account credits can only be used on Salvo products or services. Credits on SalvoWEB accounts unused for five years or more maybe cancelled after five years and the user account deactivated. Salvo members signed up to follow the Salvo Code will be allowed greater advertising flexibility.
DO NOT use the Salvo advertising system if you do not agree to these rules.
