Original Edwardian Conservatory. Dismantled and Part Restored. Boulton & Paul. 12 x 12ft.
£ 1,500
Quantity in stock: 1
A pretty, original Edwardian conservatory. Built circa 1910. Dismantled 15-20 years ago; in store since.
Approx. 12 feet wide and 12 feet deep (3.5 metres). Height is c. 11 feet (3.3 metres). Door is 33” x 82”. (84 x 208 c/m).
Some parts carefully restored. Generally good condition. There is some rot but only at the bottoms of some of the window frames.
Bought it for my own use but I have moved to a house with a tiny garden.
Very reluctant sale but must sell quickly: I have lost my storage unit!!
I have never seen another period conservatory in useable condition for sale; this is a very rare opportunity.
Made by Boulton & Paul of Norfolk who were well known as makers of garden buildings. There was a maker’s plate with their name on the back of the door, unfortunately the little plate was subsequently broken. I still have the pieces.
I had the three triangular roof panels stripped of paint and restored, as well as one opening roof-light and the finial which hangs from the ceiling inside. The roof panels were rotten at the bottom so we carefully replaced the bad parts with new wood. Then work pressures took over and it just stayed in storage.
Condition is generally very good; the wood is mostly very sound, just covered in many thick layers of paint. There is some rot, but this is only in the bottoms of some of the window-frames.
Inside the conservatory the roof is braced in several places by decorative cast-iron spandrels. Also the original iron window openers are still in situ. Externally there is the ogee-shaped guttering but a new downpipe will be required.
The fortunate buyer will need to build dwarf walls from the ground up to the window cills, which are about waist height.
One of the roof panels has fallen apart but I have all the bits. Note that the structure fits into a corner, so there is a plain wall to the right. Of course, one could make another window frame to match the others and it could have glass on all sides.
VIEWINGS:
Please contact me, I am happy for folk to inspect it.
COLLECTION:
Collection only, in person or by courier. The conservatory is stored just outside Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire. It is on ground level with good vehicular access. Some of the pieces are fairly heavy; a van with a tail-lift is recommended. I regret I have badly damaged my back so I am unable to assist with lifting. I have a few trollies which we can use to wheel the parts outside and up to your van.
Please note this is not a business, I am selling the contents of my warehouse.
