DESCRIPTION:
The items above represent the remaining unrestored items from my former business’s Company Museum. Until about ten years ago I owned and ran Thomas Crapper & Company; we had our own private museum which I enjoyed collecting and adding to over the years. It was never open to the public as such; I showed visitors if they were interested. It was featured on television a number of times - the collection was very good for publicity.
When I sold the firm the new owners did not want the museum, so I kept it but I cannot justify this any longer.
None of these pieces are Crapper products; I gave some to the new owners, I have sold other TC items and I am keeping some for myself. However the majority of the former Crapper Collection comprised items by heritage manufacturers from across the industry: Twyfords; Royal Doulton; Johnson Brothers; George Jennings, Shanks & Co., et al.
Recently I have been selling-off the contents after failing to find a single buyer to keep the collection together. Now I must hand back the keys to the warehouse where the museum has been in storage, so the remainder must go.
SUPPORT:
I have over 40 years’ experience in antique sanitaryware so I can advise you on the heritage and history of the pieces if that is of interest. Also how best to restore the items and whom to appoint to do the work.
VIEWINGS:
Please look at the photographs, which cover most of the unrestored items left in the collection. If you see anything of interest please contact me for additional information, photographs &c. Alternatively make an appointment to visit.
Please see my other listings of rare antique baths and a large collection of restored loos, washbasins, taps &c.
The antique taps and fittings above and the other contents of the former Crapper Collection are stored just outside Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire. It is on ground level with good vehicular access.
THE FORMER THOMAS CRAPPER MUSEUM:
This is some of the remainder of what was once the largest collection of antique sanitaryware in the country; perhaps anywhere. For many years I owned and ran the famous old firm, Thomas Crapper & Co., established in 1861. When I sold the business nearly ten years ago I retained what used to be the company museum.
Mostly assembled in the 1980s and 1990s, it was a private collection which was seen by relatively few customers and people in the trade. It comprised loos, basins, baths, cisterns, taps, accessories, trade catalogues, salesman’s samples and advertising ephemera; all by many different manufacturers, including Shanks, Bolding, Twyfords, Doulton, Jennings and Crapper to name a handful.
After extensive efforts failed to find a buyer for the whole Thomas Crapper Museum I am dispersing the contents.
It is an opportunity never to be repeated!
Please note this is not a business, I am selling the contents of my museum.
