Can you give us a short introduction to your architectural salvage business?

We are one of the biggest companies in Germany and situated at the BERLIN Autobahnring. As we are not specialised in one or two item groups, we are a huge store on 2 x 23.000 sqm terrain with 8000sqm halls to find a various mix of architectural antiques and vintage deco items, as well as fine art.

For example, we have always around 4000 doors inventory in our webshop catalogue,  that was invented in 1996 as one of the first in the world.

Reclaimed doors

How long have you been in business and what made you want to open an architectural salvage/reclamation showroom/yard?

We started one day after the German reunification on the 4th of October 1990. We saw the task to rescue lots of original building materials of the Esatgerman landscapes, that had been in danger to be destroyed very fast, because of the yearning to modernise the whole socialist rotten cities and countryside.

Roughly what percentage of your antique/ reclaimed items do you sell online or through social media?

50%

Your business makes the global community ‘greener’ - is this one of your aims and do you see a better future in Germany for reclaimed materials in design/construction?

For sure we want to save tradition, work and material of the ancestors to keep nature healthy and push the reuse of everything !

Reclaimed materials in public or private housing are still growing and people invent lots of new ideas , especially to keep as much as possible at the place where it was installed from the first day.

Last week the biggest European fair DENKMAL ended in Leipzig with lots of contacts and success – was especially great to see that a growing group of very interested youngsters was at the place both as guests and professionals !

Which antique/reclaimed items have you chosen to feature in your own home?

In Berlin most of the flats are already very original, but we added, for example, antique bathroom items and wall cupboards from the twenties , as well as many strange vintage objects of value and historical interest coming from all over the world.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of starting a salvage business in Germany today?

Make your hobby a profession, and if you have lots of space mix business up with a demolition company and an inviting mini cafe to create a place to be – because face to face is growing again after the years of corona and social media explosion.
