Texas, USA
Architectural Artifacts, Chicago, has been selling architectural antiques and furnishings from Europe, the UK, North and South America for thirty seven years. However, the showroom closes its doors on 15th April, and founder Stuart Grannen is moving to Round Top, Texas.
Grannen became known for salvaging and saving iconic pieces from demolition sites in Chicago. He says he has sold over 100,000 items, including a Louis Sullivan designed elevator from the Chicago Stock Exchange. In fact, he can definitely claim to have saved many iconic pieces of Chicago's past that would otherwise have been lost.
People already flock to Round Top for their famous antiques markets, held three times a year, so Stuart has chosen the perfect site to relocate to. Stuart has already renovated his house and the old saloon and dance hall are currently being converted to an event venue and antiques gallery. There will be also be a fifteen thousand square foot showroom at Paul Michael's Market Hill.
It will enable a change of lifestyle for Grannen. Instead of concentrating on the day to day running of the business, he will have time to travel and source stock, which he loves. He is also looking forward to the warmer Texan climate.
