Source Antiques Ltd has been restoring and selling retro kitchens for the past 15 years. In that time, we have supplied hundreds of fully restored vintage kitchens to our clients’ specifications. Each kitchen has been supplied in the colour and format requested with some purpose-built modifications such as island units, false frontages for dish washers and fridges at our clients’ request.
Our kitchens have been shipped round the world from the USA to Australia and have appeared in film, television and theatre productions. They have also been used in commercial situations such as cafes, restaurants, boutiques and bars.
Source Antiques holds in the region of 250 units at any one time which allows us to supply top quality units from stock.
We offer two iconic 1950’s styles: the beautiful, curved fronted English Rose with all its charm and character reflecting the post war drive for modernism, practicality and a new approach to hygiene. It was first introduced to the British market as the sectional solution to kitchen planning with revolutionary features such as eye level grills and ovens, fridge freezers and even a matching hot water/ heating boiler. These kitchens were the top of the range designer style of their time. The taste for superb quality, longevity and design panache still applies to this day, with more of our clients making the decision that quality and the use of durable materials are by far more in line with the reuse of materials being even better than recycled materials.
The Paul Metalcraft Kitchen has the more utilitarian aspect of straight lines and flat frontages with recessed cupboard and drawer handles. Paul kitchens were again styled as sectional units allowing the client to build their kitchen to their own spec. Paul Kitchens pioneered the use of rotating carrousel corner units for both wall and base units and the introduction of open-ended units with display shelves for both wall and floor units (as did English Rose). The introduction of the integral washing machine with power mangle and heating element must have seemed like science fiction in the days of boiling clothes and pummelling them with a washing dolly. A Paul kitchen would not look out of place coming out of a modern design studio except these were made to last with a mixture of high-grade aluminium and stainless steel. This being one of the reasons for their continued popularity and extensive fan base.
Source has now decided that the time is right for us to take a step back and with luck pass on this little bit of British domestic history. After many years of collecting units and knowledge we are looking for a new owner and are selling our whole stock along with the inherent knowledge and information required to keep this unique business functioning at the very high standard we have achieved.
