As the Building Material Reuse Association celebrates 25 years as an organisation it is looking to the future, with the rolling out of a new name “Build Reuse”. The BMRA originally started as a small band of decon professionals looking to build an industry, they have grown to become North America's top non-profit educational and research organisation to advance the recovery and reuse of building materials.
The rebranding to Build Reuse not only reflects a better sense of the organisation’s work, It is also a call to action for the industry and general public. Reuse can have such positive impacts on communities, not just environmentally but with the creation of jobs and the value of materials staying within local economies. Reuse builds opportunities and ensures local communities continue to thrive.
Their annual Deconstruction & Reuse Conference is to be held from the 28th to 30th October in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is looking to be a great event with their first keynote speaker being announced as; Francesca Russello Ammon, author of "Bulldozer: Demolition and Clearance of the Postwar Landscape” and Associate Professor of City & Regional Planning and Historic Preservation at the University of Pennsylvania’s Stuart Weitzman School of Design.
There is still time to get involved, applications are open to anyone inside or outside of the industry, to lead a workshop, panel discussion, or topic presentation. Proposals should generally fit within the conference’s core themes; local circular economies, zero-waste construction, upcycling, embodied carbon, and life cycle building. To apply or for more details please see their website.
