Brunswick House, home to architectural antiques and salvage showroom, LASSCO, has become a central London landmark and features in this week's Financial Times. The fascinating history of the house, as described by Philip Stephens, definitely encourages a visit.

The foundation stone was laid in 1759 and can still be seen in the cellar. Since then the house itself has experienced great change. Originally known as Belmont House, it began life in a a grand way with a coach house, stables, a large garden and a jetty on the Thames. The Duke of Brunswick occupied it for a time. The house saw the crowds once visiting Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens and then experienced their subsequent demise.

It has witnessed the arrival of industry and the railways. A terminus took some of the garden and viaducts blocked the view. The Nine Elms Cold Store looked over its shoulder and the building was used for a time as a member's club for the Railwaymen. Then came squatters. The eighteenth century mansion now looks beautiful again but somewhat out of place surrounded by skyscrapers.

LASSCO salvaged Brunswick House and brought it back to life after years of neglect. The house must now be proud to be home to their eclectic showroom, where you can buy anything from an antique fireplace or marble statue to an old sign or suitcase. It has also gained a reputation for good food with their restaurant and as a great location for special events. Brunswick House has survived the changes and together with LASSCO is ready for the new period of exciting regeneration of the area with the new US Embassy moving to Vauxhall.

LASSCO architectural antiques and salvage can also be found at their two other locations Ropewalk, London South East and Three Pigeons, Oxfordshire.

At LASSCO you can also buy a piece of the iconic Westminster Bridge of which a section will be coming to the Salvo Zone at Olympia's Listed Property Show, London on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st February. LASSCO is a member of the Salvo Code.
