The replica of Michelangelo's David in Florence's Piazza della Signoria has a new golden neighbour. Jeff Koons scultpure Pluto and Proserpina (2010-13) will be on show to coincide with opening of the city's 29th edition of the Biennale Internazionale dell'Antiquariato.
The eleven foot sculpture, made from gold coloured stainless steel, is situated in front of Palazzo Vecchio, Florence's town hall and civic museum until 28th December. Inside the civic museum is a Koons gazing ball scultpure of Baberini Faun (2013) from his series of plaster casts of Greco-Roman sculptures.
Fabrizio Moretti, who organised the exhibition, is an old masters dealer and director of the Biennale Internazionale art and antiques fair. A second exhibition pairing contemporary artwork with old masters is being planned by Galleria dell'Academia, which is home to the original David (1501-04).
