Collectors flocked to Sotheby's for its 'Made In Britain' auction on 25 March featuring British art and restaurant fittings from The Ivy, resulting in a sales total of £3,377,068 by 850 bidders from 34 countries and over £1m raised for the charity Child Bereavement UK.
 
The Ivy, a fixture on the London nightlife scene for almost a century, is nestled in the heart of London's theatre district - a haven for actors, authors, politicians and socialites alike. Re-designed in the early 1990s by acclaimed architect M.J. Long, the restaurant included works by leading artists of the Post-War period, such as Bridget Riley, Allen Jones, Howard Hodgkin, Peter Blake and Joe Tilson, which were offered alongside iconic memorabilia such as the cloakroom tip tray which sold for £875 (estimated at £80), the doormat £3,125 (est £30), the entrance doors £27,500 (est £800), oak and leather banquette £4,375 (est £800), a sign for the Ladies loos sold for £7,500 (est £100) and a small diamond leaded coloured and jealous glass window £31,250 (est £100).
 
About the oak and brass half-glazed doors the catalogue states that when Jeremy King and Chris Corbin commissioned architect M. J. Long to redesign The Ivy in 1990, their brief for the entrance was simple - it should not be too inviting. Long drew up a scheme to replace the existing entrance which related to the pavement lights below.
