Eco friendly natural materials and the demand for unique styling has made the reuse of reclaimed and architectural salvage a big trend in bathroom design. Sustainability is a global trend which looks set to continue.

Natural beauty is key to creating a calm space. A bathroom is a place where you can unwind and totally relax. This means using natural earthy materials such as reclaimed stone, wood or marble. Nature can be brought in too with plants in pots or, for the more adventurous, a green living wall.

The trend is for bigger bathrooms and showers, and to be more connected to the bedroom or living space. Just imagine feeling thoroughly spoilt sitting in an antique cast iron tub in your bedroom. Alternatively how about using reclaimed room dividers to separate the space leading to a large walk-in shower. The idea is to create a luxurious ensuite rather than a small cramped one.

Making a wow statement is another key design feature. Reclaimed floor tiles and antique sanitaryware give individual style and a good choice of colours. Unique character can be created with the addition of living room furniture in the bathroom. Antique or vintage pieces will personalise the design and make it yours. A comfy chair, an upcycled washstand or a vintage mirror all add to that feeling of warmth and calm.
