With the swallows sitting twitchily on the telegraph wires summer must soon be over, and as memories fade of buckets and spades, fish caught (and lost!) and bisque soup made from shore crabs, a new season for garden ornament begins.

During the summer we bought an entire collection of antique garden ornament from the Nawton Tower Estate in Yorkshire including the largest Italian Istrian marble wellhead I have ever seen, standing at nearly 10ft tall; a marvellous multi-dial sundial and two pairs of elegant square stone planters.

In addition to our regular stock of the best and largest French troughs available, I also have a pair of granite stone planters with a wonderful provenance, that being of the late, great Sir Anthony Caro, chosen and purchased by the titan of British sculpture himself as part of a sadly never realised 'grand project'.

Another famous sculptor is represented here with David Wynne's 'Soaring Bird', cast in 1967. Best known for his 'Boy with Dolphin' on Chelsea embankment, this work is part of a series of bird sculptures exhibited at the famous Arthur Tooth Gallery of Bruton St, London.

It is now quite difficult to group together the other, somewhat eclectic range of items included in this update, however I will try... In the lead corner we have an elegant heron and a 'Butterfly Girl', being a fine example of the work of the Bromsgrove Guild - the premier makers of fine garden ornament in the early part of the 20th century. Time and tide is covered by two weathervanes and a rare 19th century composition stone sundial, with water falling into the fine cast iron Handyside dolphin fountain. Neo-Classicism is represented by a fading, weathered composition stone Townley Vase, along with a small pair of marble tazza urns. Finally, an Art Deco marble table and an unusual conservatory seat respectively await hospitality and good conversation.
