On the list for the national newspapers top places to buy architectural salvage was Wells Reclamation, Beeston Reclamation, Cox's Yard, Wilsons Reclamation and Lassco. The Guardian said this about Wells Reclamation.
'This family-run site has an extensive stone yard as well as an indoor emporium, and currently stocks everything from fruit crates to a cast-iron cockerel three metres tall. It also has a blog with lots of ideas for how to turn anything in its trove into treasure.'

On the back of this coup, the Wells Journal wrote a nice piece on why they think Well Reclamation is so unique. The statues are frequently painted to coincide with local events: they were red, white and blue for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, and are currently sporting a Rolling Stones tattoo as a nod to last year's Glastonbury Festival headliners. Driving into the yard itself, the first thing that hits me is that it's about 10 times bigger than I'd expected.

Hadyn Davies, the owner of Wells Reclamation started the business 30 years ago after he came out of the army. "I never thought it would get to be this big - I thought it would be me, some old stuff, and a cup of tea. Now it's me, 14 staff and this big yard. We're turning over around £1.4million a year, and purchasing around 90 tonnes of stuff every year" he tells the Wells Journal.

Mr Davies says he has never had a bad week, and the secret of his success is to try to be as fair as possible. He also says it takes two years to train his staff, and all fourteen are 'absolutely exceptional'.

Wells Reclamation is at The Old Cider Farm, Coxley, Wells, BA5 1RQ.
