Joanne Palmisano has finished the reclaimed design project at the Mad River Barn Inn, Vermont. The bed and breakfast is open to the public with sixteen guest rooms, each with a private bath, and two bunk rooms. The barn and farmhouse have been transformed with repurposed, reclaimed and upcycled material from the old buildings themselves and other interesting locations.
 
Joanne explains, 'The salvaged items range from turkey feeder light fixtures, old barn doors as decor and sliders, barn doors on sliders made from reclaimed barn wood, old tables and chairs updated with paint, artwork made from scrap wood, old Singer factory stools as bar stools, to salvaged metal used as curtain rods, the bar's footrest, shelving, plus counters made from salvaged schoolhouse chalkboards, stove vent made with reclaimed wood, and light fixtures made from wooden ladders and bathroom vanity legs.' She has even created a light fixture in the game room made from bed springs from the old mattresses in the rooms.
 
Designer Joanne Palmisano is well known for her blog Salvage Secrets and for being the author of the internationally acclaimed book, Salvage Secrets, Transforming Reclaimed Materials into Design Concepts, published by W.W. Norton. She is also a designer for DIY Network videos and has styled homes for national publications, including This Old House.
 
Joanne's second book, 'Salvage Secrets, Design and Decor' which is out in May will have striking visuals by architectural and interiors photographer, Susan Teare, who also did the original Salvage Secrets book. Joanne will be signing the new book in various locations including architectural salvage showroom, Restoration Resources during Boston design week.
