A pair of London architects have produced a system which could radically overthrow their own profession by enabling anyone with a computer to design and build a house. WikiHouse is an open source construction website, meaning anyone can upload building designs and plans for anyone else to download and adapt. The final design can be 'printed' onto plywood cut by a CNC machine and constructed using a simple wedge and peg system.

WikiHouse developers realise that there is a long way to go before their project eliminates the need for architects, planner and contractors, but they hope that one day their website will even be able to deal with building regulations, consents and laws.

There are no inhabited WikiHouses yet, but a WikiHouse walkers shelter has been completed for a small English village called Fridaythorpe, and a handful of prototypes buildings have been constructed.
