In San Diego, Jackson Design & Remodeling's team of interior designers have highlighted the hottest trends for 2014 ranging from brass accents to reclaimed wood. The design world is having a love affair with glitz inspired by the film and television sets of The Great Gatsby and Downton Abbey, some of which were built with architectural salvage from UK yards such as the Architectural Forum. Glass, crystal, acrylic and brass shows up in every room and the fur glamour theme in rugs and furniture gives a lovely warm and cosy feel.
 
Bold 'pops' of colour are found on fabrics, furniture and accessories with the purple-toned hue of radiant orchid and strong geometric patterns of black and white. Architectural white is is emphasised by strong, sculptural pieces which can be found in architectural antiques showrooms. The boldness of white on white also accentuates the architectural features of a home. Monochrome palettes including white make a dramatic impression in a subdued, sophisticated way. Contrasts are created with dark walls and white trims. Other colours seen are greys and blues.
 
Creative decoration trends are digital wallpaper and chalk paint anywhere from a child's bedroom to the office, and mix and match layering of textures in metal and wood.
 
Last but not least, reclaimed wood is a hot trend for 2014. Reclaimed wood originally became attractive to many as a green solution, but has now become a desired look and is being used in wall art, wall covering and furniture. Rustic wood is blended with modern elements. The mix of old and new is appealing. Weathered natural beauty of repurposed woods also seduce. Reclamation has a story to tell from the past, such as old barn doors which have become one of the hottest design trends for 2014.
