Wellers Auctioneers of Surrey are pleased to announce that they will be holding their fifth on-site architectural auction of the year on Saturday 27th July at Radnedge Architectural in Llanelli, South Wales.

Proprietor Ray Radnedge has been in the salvage business for well over 30 years, he is well known and respected across the country and further afield, however he has now decided to focus on the popular reclaimed timber and flooring part of the business, hence in the region of some 1,200 or so lots will now be offered in this mainly unreserved stock clearance auction sale.

This sale was originally scheduled as a two day auction but now all lots will be sold on Saturday 27th in two side by side auctions.

Auction One: the first 439 lots will commence at 9.30am and will take the form of a traditional 'walk around the lots auction' with no live internet bidding.  This part of the sale includes mainly salvaged materials ranging from cobbles, bricks and tiles to stone steps, sills and coping.  There is also a good selection of Victorian gates and railing but the highlights of this part of the sale will be the 200 square yards of Pennant flagstone which is presented with an estimate of £20 to £40 per square yard and the run of various sized lots of carboniferous limestone feature stone.

Auction Two: will commence at 9.45am consisting of 800 lots which will be sold from the pulpit rostrum in the main showroom.  All of these lots will be offered on the live internet bidding platform 'the saleroom' and also available as a catalogue on 'i-bidder'. This auction contains a cornucopia of major architectural antiques, features, garden statuary, showroom stock and lots more Victorian wrought iron including three stunning sets of grand entranceway gates. Unusual lots include a vast quantity of original feature and design moulds which Ray salvaged from a Welsh Valley Foundry some 30 years ago as well as his collection of original enamel signs, pub mirrors and vintage cast iron tractor seats.  There is a good range of restored fireplaces and inserts, cast iron base tables, original Victorian cast iron ended benches including Coalbrookdale nasturtium pattern, staddlestones, doors, radiators, staircases and, strangely enough, four canoes (but that is another story).

Highlights of the day are Lots 1101 and 1102, two very fine similar Bath stone chimneypieces originally salvaged from the Rougemont School and believed to be by William Burges, each is estimated at £10,000 to £15,000.

Sited at the bottom of the Welsh Valleys it is not surprising that this auction has a wide range of features salvaged from churches, chapels and schools including pulpits, benches, original elm school desks and gothic stone windows. The undoubted highlights of this part of the auction are: Lot 1226 a substantial Victorian Bath stone bell tower originally salvaged from St John's Church in Mountain Ash which would certainly make an unusual and rare garden folly; Lots 1233 to 1240 are eight Bath stone columns which sit nicely next to the bell tower; Lot 1227 is a 35ft run of terracotta walling salvaged from the first British Co-Op Store in Sheerness which is decorated with floral swags and is estimated at £2,000 to £4,000.

The sale should conclude at approx. 5.30pm with a large carved stone statue of a Lioness with her cubs and a pair of large matching stone Griffins, both lots are expected to make in the region of £3,000 each.

Full descriptions and photographs of every lot should be available on our website from this weekend.
