Cottees first ever garden statuary auction will take place on Saturday 4th August at 12.30pm in Wareham, Dorset.

The sale has developed from the offer of the contents of the grounds of a large house in the local area. Up for sale from the house are a large bronze stag and bear and many large urns which have all weathered well and are ready to place in situ. Urns large and small dominate this section of the sale as well as weathered statues and benches. Subsequently a large quantity of good modern statuary has been entered including a large pair of lions and seated dogs all on bases.

Supplemented by entries from a few other private vendors the sale will consist of approximately 150 lots with prices ranging from £30 to £5,000.

A large monumental carved Portland stone sculpture by local artist Jonathan Sells is also included in the auction. Originally commissioned nine years ago, the statue commemorates markets in Wareham from Medieval times and has been sited at the Market in East Street where the auction will be held since 2003. It is hoped that an institution or local interest will bid for the statue which features many local characters who were used by the artist as models for the work.

Cottees are interested in holding twice yearly auctions of garden statuary and invite entries from vendors across the country for future sales. A lorry with HY-AB crane is available for movement of large items and will be available for the arrangement of delivery to properties after the sale by negotiation. Cottees large open yard facility would enable large items to be stored for a period of time. It is hoped that the next auction will be held in Spring 2013.

Contact John Condie at Cottees on 01929 552826 or Geoff Thompson at W&S Recycling on 01202 675564 for further information on this and future auctions.
