Specialising in the removal, restoration and installation of antique chimneypieces, experts in their field Melluish and Davis have built a good reputation for their responsible approach to the restoration of these historic features.

Great care is taken to ensure that as much of the original integrity of each piece remains intact, which often involves the meticulous uncovering of paint layers, cleaning to dissolve discoloured wax and grime soot and smoke staining. This process is methodically tested before execution. When chimneypieces require sections of marble to be recarved, they work in conjunction with surviving elements using plaster moulds, profiles, scale drawings, and their extensive research archive to ensure that the best possible reconstruction can be achieved.

Melluish and Davis also undertake confidential consultancy work and provide reports that detail their opinion as to the age, date and additional detail on chimneypieces. These reports are intended to aid appropriate planning applications, as well as provide a detailed record for each piece.
