Save the date and book now for the 30th September 2021, Untapped New York tour of the Olde Good Things flagship store in historic Midtown West with manager, Jim DiGiacoma.

'According to Olde Good Things, unlike demolition, architectural deconstruction requires finesse instead of shear force.' and Olde Good Things (and Jim) have saved many iconic pieces of New York history over the years. These include the Waldorf Astoria, Plaza Hotel, Flatiron Building, Times Square theaters and JFK Airport. Some of the treasures from the Art Deco Waldorf Astoria saved were, 'the Winston Churchill wood paneled room and they deconstructed 250 marble mantels and more than 2,000 lighting fixtures.'

So it is a salvage store full of iconic treasures and unique salvaged items. Plus on any given day, shoppers might include an architect looking for antique French doors, a restaurant designer looking for industrial chicken wire glass and unusual factory doors, a decorator trying to find a set of lights for over a kitchen island, or millennials shopping for a unique item from the past. Urban dwellers snatch up things like bar carts made of reclaimed pine or chicken wire glass, large mirrors framed with repurposed copper and ceiling tin, and rare pieces of wooden furniture, while others may covet the cast iron ball and claw bathtubs or porcelain faucets. Some recent purchases have been the limestone gargoyles from the perch of a Park Avenue building. Jim will have some fascinating stories to tell.

Untapped also does virtual tours for those who cannot make it to New York. The live Webinars in October include 'Lost New York Mansions of 5th Avenue'. The Vanderbilts, the Astors, and the Beekmans are just a few of the notable New York families who once resided on Manhattan's fashionable Fifth Avenue. In this talk, Untapped New York's Chief Experience Officer Justin Rivers will resurrect some of the magnificent mansions on Millionaire's Row that no longer stand. Rivers will bring these glamorous abodes back to life with stunning historical images and scintillating stories.
