West Sussex, UK - The two Salvo top picks for March 2019 both celebrate thirty years. Summers Place is auctioning Berlin wall sections thirty years after reunification. While Bath Decorative Antiques Fair is celebrating their thirty year birthday at the Bath Pavilion.

West Sussex - Summers Place - Garden and Natural History Live Auction:

From 4 to 10 November 2019, Berlin is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution and the fall of the Berlin Wall with a major festival. The wall had been constructed in 1961 by the GDR, German Democratic Republic of East Germany to divide East Berlin from the West. So it will be a celebration of freedom.

Six complete Berlin wall sections feature in two lots of the Summers Place auction. The sections had been in the Parliament of Trees, a memorial garden opposite the Reichstag parliament building. Space is now needed for new parliament buildings hence the sale. Featured on one section is a quote from the first post war president of a united Germany, Richard von Weizsacker, which says ' To unite means to learn to share.' The four sections in Lot 22 are estimated at £12,000 to £18,000 and two sections in Lot 23 are £5,000 to £8,000.

The auction also features antique garden ornament and statuary.

Images show some of the wall sections, a carved marble figure of a youth supporting a theatre light fitting, late 19th century signed Walter Emdem Architect & E Mitchell & T Bromfield Sculptors and After Julien, a composition stone group of Amalthea and the goat. The marble original of After Julien sculpted by Pierre Julien can be seen in the Louvre. See the full auction catalogue at the website link below.
