Recent years have proved difficult for dealers selling traditional so-called brown furniture made from oak, mahogany and walnut with many buyers preferring modern furniture. Although there has been recent interest in vintage lighter wood pieces like Mid-century modern. The market for brown furniture had been falling for a while but now, according to Katrina Burroughs of The Sunday Times, Georgian and Victorian furniture is being tipped for a revival.

The online campaign hashtag #BringBackBrownFurniture launched by Halls Fine Art Director, Jeremy Lamond, a while ago may have helped. He reminded everyone of the virtues of brown furniture with the most important message that it was both beautiful and built to last. He could not understand the appeal of flimsy particleboard furniture with little if any resale value. However things are changing as Katrina explains that even Ikea's head of sustainability, Steve Howard, is now suggesting repair and recycle for home furnishings. Designers are currently reusing brown furniture including Salvo Code dealer, Retrouvius. Working for a broad cross section of domestic and commercial clients designs include architectural salvage and antiques mixed in with modern elements.

There are many gorgeous images of brown antiques featured in Kate's piece. One being Salvo Code dealer, LASSCO, at Brunswick House and Ropewalk. Find plenty of brown antique furniture for sale on SalvoWEB too, like the images shown.

So grab a brown bargain before the rest of the world catches on.
