Up and coming green luxury lifestyle brand, Bert & May, was the star of this weeks Decorex having plonked a no-expense-spared two bedroom guest lodge in front of the main entrance of capacious marquees in a field at a slightly muddy Syon Park.

Affectionately known as Bert's Box, and designed by Louise Davies of Box 9 Design, the accommodation features a green roof SIP insulated timber frame with reclaimed oak cladding inside and out with trademark compo floor tiles, and some luxury bolt-ons such as a Water Monopoly bathroom.

Attention to detail in the blurb is fulsome:
Our pre-fabricated homes have the structural integrity of a conventional building. By completing nearly all of the works at the factory, the time required on-site is virtually diminished. This significantly reduces the noise and general pollution, as well as waste, created by a traditional building site.

Our boxes require minimal groundwork and foundations.

Upon completion of building works, each box is wired and fitted with first fix plumbing and electrics. Further, they are decorated and even in some cases furnished.

Our boxes, which come in two pieces, are shrink wrapped and handed over to the logistics team.

The install team follow the box to site and oversee the sitting, connection and commissioning. Once the box arrives on site, it is simply unwrapped and craned into position.

The Bigger Box, our largest box, takes no more than a day to put together on site.

Whether you are looking for a woodland lodge, an office for the garden or a floating home, we can work with you to realise your vision.

Each box comes with a standard 10 year structural guarantee.
and covers UK planning laws:
All of the boxes Bert and May Spaces offer fall within the legal definition of a "mobile home". This represents significant planning advantages if you do not wish to apply for planning consent for an additional unit.

The laws relating to touring caravans also apply to mobile home and static caravans: a type that can be significantly larger and suitable for year-round residential accommodation.

A mobile home is regarded in law as an article of movable personal property known as a 'chattel' and there is no public law preventing one being kept in someone's garden, but there are Laws that regulate the 'Use' of land.

Lee Thornley started Bert & May with Harriet Roberts, who he met in Spain where Yorkshireman Lee owns a boutique hotel and where his passion for reclaimed coloured concrete pattern tiles was born. He now has a small Spanish manufactory making authentic new traditional concrete tiles under B&M's Encaustica brand - "Not particularly eco-friendly," he admits, "but we are careful to promote the green things we do, and we don't try to downplay the less green."

Bert & May Group is a collection of three companies, Materials, Spaces and Encaustica, 'with a passion for design, craftsmanship, discovery' and a trademark eye for detail and brand awareness. Bert & May Materials specialises in unique and original materials, based in a studio in Bethnal Green connected to a team of dynamic designers, salvage enthusiasts, makers and finders, scouring Europe for exceptional reclaimed gems or making original tile designs for its handmade collections, and boasting the largest selection of reclaimed wood and tiles in London, as well as a catalogue of bespoke tile designs and colours.

Lee is all for collaborating and brand-building with this tiny home. Why Decorex? "We want to be cool, not broke. Decorex was a natural choice for us to launch Bert's Box which comes in green and greener, luxury and premium luxury versions, and is for sale at the show for around £200k."

The Bert's Boxes were stylishly designed tiny spaces for living, working or playing using Bert & May's reclaimed materials in collaboration with Box 9 Design, who specialise in reclamation friendly eco designs for commercial or residential projects.
