David Marlow has been working at International Slate Supplies since the beginning of this year. Since then sales have exceeded expectations. He now has the pleasure of selling a batch of old yorkstone from the home of Norman Wisdom who lived in the Arkley, a village in Barnet, London.

David Marlow writes 'Arkley has been the home of many well-known people over the years including those listed below. However I wonder how many people Sir Norman Wisdom truly entertained. He was unique, perhaps a national treasure in hindsight.'

'Tony Blackburn - DJ
Graham Hill - retired F1 driver and Embassy Hill car owner, lived between Borehamwood and Shenley. He was killed when his private plane crashed on Arkley Golf Course in 1975.
Rufus Hound - comedian
Trevor Howard (1913-1988) - actor, lived for many years in Arkley and also died there.
Humphrey Lyttelton - musician
W. E. Shewell-Cooper - organic gardener, used Arkley Manor for many years as a home and show garden
Norman Wisdom - comedian
Jermaine Jenas - footballer
Bacary Sagna - footballer
Marouane Chamakh - footballer''

'At ISS, we have been extremely busy on the demolition side and reclaim sales are beyond my expectations in my new role here. We have had one customer purchasing over 1000m2 over the last month for a full farm restoration from derelict near Thame in Oxfordshire along with regular sales of yorkstone.'

'As well as viewing over 12,000m2, yes, 12,000m2 of reclaimed yorkstone this week on one single site, we have just lifted an area of old yorkstone paving from the home of the late great Sir Norman Wisdom in the village of Arkeley in the Borough of Barnet, London. We often supply to the homes of famous or established people. In June this year we supplied yorkstone to one of Britain's top formula one drivers and I have been making yorkstone cills for a senior politician and just been asked to produce more.'

'I have worked in the reclaim industry since 2000 and been in my new role here at International Slate Supplies - The Yorkstone Yard since the start of this year. Much to my delight, and that of our Director, Paul Harris, sales of reclaimed materials have exceeded our expectations. We have seen a great increase in sales of reclaimed roofing slates and a major increase in sales of new Spanish & Chinese Roofing Slates. As well as supplying the local builders and customers nationwide, we supply a large number of reclaim yards and merchants with stock. We are heavily involved in demolition and recycling the source of our materials.'

'Our demolition business operates under the name PJ Labour Services Ltd. We have a huge dedicated workforce, all our own machines, some extremely heavy equipment, selector grabs, bucket, jaws and shears and we handle everything from the chimney to the floor. We personally recycle all the pipe work, cable and timber. Anything we cannot sell is recycled further. We also handle and assess asbestos, chemicals etc and these are dealt with in accordance with the guidelines and registered practices for removal and disposal. Just to top things off we have four Pegson Metrotrac Crushers on hire, demand is such for our plant and machinery that we have just placed an order for more equipment.'

Update:
International Slate Supplies no longer stock reclaimed building materials and sell only new Spanish and Chinese slate.
