London West, UK
As part of this years London Design Festival, Design Junction held an exhibition of work from different designers from 19 to 23 September.
Included in the exhibition was designer Felicia Strehmel from Lilly's Lightbox Company, who makes hanging wall art from old drawers. They are hung upended on the wall, with a customised piece of perspex in place of the drawers bottom. An energy saving lightbox is stylishly wired in, and the light box is ready! The drawers are either left in their raw used state or restored. The perspex has photographs, drawings or quotes printed on to it, that can be seen clearly when the light box is switched on.
Also featured was a chair called 'Occupy', made by Dejana Kabiljo, a designer from Vienna. The chair is made from the metal spring innards of used Yugoslavian military mattresses. The spring frames are finished in gold to add more than a hint of luxuriousness.
Design Junction is at The Sorting Office, New Oxford Street in London.
