The Milestone Society

The Milestone Society aims to identify, record, research, conserve and interpret for public benefit the milestones and other waymarkers of the British Isles. Members' interests include tollhouses, turnpike history and canal milestones, and over 500 members. Work is carried out by local groups organised on a county basis, each with a county co-ordinator. The society works to develop close contact with highway authorities, conservation officers, parishes, English Heritage and Historic Scotland. Website: milestonesociety.co.uk
