London East, UK - Raise your hand if you believe we can we have it all; ethics and aesthetics.
Grand Designs Live: Salvage Yard
Grand Designs Live: Kevin McCloud, the Grand Designers from the TV series and a host of industry experts live on stage.: 12th May
Salvo director, Thornton Kay says “aesthetics is ethics” and will take the stage with TV presenter Kevin McCloud, Friends of the Earth and Edward Bulmer Natural Paint for a talk on sustainable sourcing in the show’s Grand Theatre on Saturday 12th May. I am also joining the panel to share my personal path into sustainable design and finally share pictures of my reclaimed renovation (you know what it is like, you never think your own home is finished). One bedroom, one bathroom, one garden, one kitchen…now my walk-in wardrobe.
When I bought my flat I was working for a big fashion corporation and initially fell for the aesthetics and character of antique and reclaimed materials, but as I took this direction and began to educate myself about sustainable sourcing with Salvo as my resource, redoing my flat resulted in a bigger life change and I left my job to reclaim my life.
I now work in sustainable fashion and interiors and have learnt that sustainability is not a purchase, it is a practise. However, when the practise informs a purchase it surely feels like having it all.
The introduction of an Architectural Salvage zone to Grand Designs Live in partnership with Salvo is not to be missed. Exhibitors include Salvo Code dealers Source Antiques, LASSCO, The Old Radiator Company, The Vintage Floor Tile Company and The Vintage Fridge Company.
Salvo will also be giving out free copies of the new Salvo Code pocket book with names you need to know for responsible sourcing.
We hope to see you there.
