West Sussex, UK - SalvoWEB, SalvoSITES and SalvoNEWS are being moved to a new server with new software and user interface. The new beta version will be going live this weekend, so please expect some downtime. We hope to keep the downtime to between midnight and 6am BST (19:00 - 01:00 EDT). Logins may be down for longer.
Please check twitter @salvowebtek for updates.
The new system, which has taken two years to develop, has been put together by Salvo with two Russian programmers and a Hungarian server engineer, and with much help input and advice from others. The brief was to replicate the existing SalvoWEB systems, but to make the layouts responsive so that they work well with smart phones and tablets, as well as laptops and desktops. The new secure site is hosted in Crawley on a Rackspace Cloudserver running Ubuntu and Nginx, Laravel PHP programs and images of much higher resolutions than previously, cached and delivered worldwide by AWS content delivery systems. This will give us a stable platform on which to build planned new functionality, more of which later.
Migrating the old data has been trickiest part of the operation as Salvo's data still goes back to the 1999 version, with many incarnations and hundreds of tables. We hope everything will work seamlessly, but it may not to start with, so please inform us of any issues and we will do our best to resolve them as quickly as possible.
This is the biggest upgrade that Salvo has undertaken.
