Leighton Hall
Bought in 1822 by Richard Gillow, grandson of Robert Gillow, the founder of the famous furniture makers Gillow & Co. of Lancaster, who refaced the house in the Gothic style and retired from the business to live the life of a country squire. Hall and 'Flying staircase': Fine example of the early Gothic revival, with long dlicate pillars supporting a landing and framing a beautifully curved stone staircase. Large panelled room previously used as a billiard room. Tea rooms.
