FOR SALE : ANTIQUE PARAY LE MONIAL FLOOR TILES
20m2+ of antique ceramic floor tiles, marked 'CGCB Paray Le Monial', the inscription for the Compagnie Générale de la Céramique du Batiment (commonly shortened to Cerabati), a period ceramic tile producer which were an amalgamation of some of the older companies in Paray-le-Monial, Bourgogne and other usines around France.
These ceramic tiles have a good deep encaustic slip and likely date c.1920 although they could be earlier. The floor design tessellates around a centralised, repeating abstract colline in primarily an olive green, with a posy of flowers in vieux rose anchored on a cream background.
The tessellation is as striking as it is unique.
There are 20m2 of the 14.7cm sq tiles in good condition and a further c.3m2 of tiles which can be used as offcuts and for keying to walls. The floor has been painstakingly cleaned of old lime mortar and wax but may benefit from a polish once laid.

FOR SALE : 15M2 OF ANTIQUE CERAMIC BURGUNDY AND CREAM TILES
c.15m2 of antique French burgundy and cream 14cm sq ceramic tiles, dating from the beginning of the 20th century. The tiles have been recovered from a renovation project in the Nord Pas de Calais area of France along with a blue and white damier floor. The tiles are just over 1cm thick and are reverse marked 'St Juste les Beauvais', Beauvais being a key centre in France for the production of ceramic tiles at the turn of the last century. Ideal for the creation of a classic damier kitchen floor or entrance hallway, they have been cleaned and are ready to re-lay.
Owing to the original layout and the burgundy tiles framing the room there are 9.5m2 of burgundy tiles and 5.5m2 of cream tiles.
Being ceramic they can also be used outside, for example as an entrance pathway, or in a porch area of a Victorian town house or Villa.

FOR SALE : 16M2 ANTIQUE UNGLAZED ENCAUSTIC FLOOR TILESC.1880
A magnificent antique ceramic floor c.1880 complete with original ornate border tiles. Both the principal tiles and border tiles are 16cm sq / 6 ¼ inches sq and are marked 'M'; the inscription for Ceramiques de Chimay, Maufroid Freres et Soeur. The date of the tiles is validated in the publication, 'Carreaux industriels 1840-1940' on page 66 where the identical tile is photographed and documented - a scan of this page is shown in the photographic record of this floor here.
The tessellation is classical and geometric yet also boldly bourgeois with ornate motifs set in purples, blues, burnt red and caramel as well as off-white with the border tiles embracing a more gothic revival theme in the same palette.
The floor, which is in very good condition, has a very pleasing patina. It has been steam cleaned to remove old wax and the colours on evidence are as vibrant now as the day they were fired. All the corner tiles are present although two are a little damaged but can either be in-filled on laying or be mitre-cut from the existing borders.
This is a floor which would be 'the hero' in any large entrance hallway, dining or drawing room or could be a major central feature in a much larger room, framed by a complimentary plain tile or antique hardwood parquet like a magnificent ornamental rug. Being ceramic the floor can be re-laid inside or outside and is suitable for under-floor heating systems.

FOR SALE : ORNATE FRENCH CERAMIC FLOOR C.1915
An ornate, rich and warm antique ceramic French floor dated c.1915, totaling over 13m2 / 140sq ft.
Warm colours of burnt red and mustard are immediately apparent in the stylised feather themed design and the palette is completed by teal and cream and a wheat coloured tile background. The floor has three borders in its layout; a large border tile in a classical geometric chain link design of complimentary colours and a plainer and softer half size border tile, again in burnt red and mustard, to frame it top and bottom. This is a richly designed and ornate floor that would add lustre, warmth and a talking point to any room it adorned.
The tiles are 14cm sq / 5 1/2 inches sq, with the exception of the half size border tile, and are in very good condition. They have all been cleaned of their original mortar to the reverse and sides and have been steam cleaned one by one to remove old wax and dirt. The colours are as rich now as when they were when fired decades ago. The floor is in good condition, some tiles have the odd chip or nibble expected of a floor of this age but these high res photos are a large representative section of the floor - more are available on request.
There are c.9.6m2 of principal tiles and 3.1m2 of border plus the required corner pieces. The large border tiles total 11+ linear metres in length and the small, 22+ linear metres.

FOR SALE : 22M2 CLASSICAL ANTIQUE FRENCH FLOOR
A large, 22m2 / 240 sq ft, classically designed antique French floor in grey, charcoal and cream, featuring a small royal blue centralised motif. The floor is sold complete with the original light grey and cream double border tiles. The conservative geometric design of the principal field tiles are framed by an unusual back to back border tile which appear to have an industrial production theme; their continuous form creating the impression of a linked series of steel wheels and cables set between two running tracks complete with pulleys. There are 14 corner pieces for the borders, which effectively accommodates the laying of the borders around an inglenook or chimney hearth. The floor tiles are marked 'CM', an abbreviation for Céramiques de Morialmé, a period ceramic tile producer founded c.1898 and that, coupled with the date of the town house from which they were reclaimed in Amiens, would date the tiles around 1909. The tiles are 16cm / 6 ¼ inches sq and are in very good condition. They have had old mortar cut away and a high pressure steam cleaning one by one has revealed a tile of very good quality; an excellent encaustic ceramic, with a good slip and vibrant colours.

The floor has been designed to visually create the impression of being octagonal tiles 'linked' with small square inserts, which the French called cabochons, but the tiles are in fact square and the inserts part of the tile design. The original half size lattice themed border tile is present as are the four corner pieces for the borders. There are 80 border tiles, totaling more than 11 linear metres.
