 FOR SALE : 6.5M2 ANTIQUE FRENCH CERAMIC FLOOR TILES C.1900 6.5 m2+ of antique ceramic encaustic floor tiles made by Paul Charnoz, Paray Le Monial, France c.1900. The palette is warm and the colours vibrant; the ornate main field tiles and grey border tiles are 17.5cm sq with half size border tiles in duplicate. The floor has been recovered from a hallway of a town house in Macon, Saone et Loire, Burgundy and has had old mortar removed from the reverse and sides of the tiles as well as old wax and dirt steamed cleaned from the faces of the tiles. It is therefore ready to relay and being ceramic can be laid internally or externally (garden path, patio etc.
Along with Boch Freres, Boulenger and Maufroid freres et souer, Paul Charnoz were amongst the finer producers of period tiles in France, as the exquisite design and detail testifies.
The floor condition is good, some tiles display occassional nibbles and capilliary cracks but the photos are representative of the floor. Any tiles with small finger nail chips have been rejected and are supplied free for offcuts or laying, depending on your choice.
The floor is located in France but can be delivered at cost.
