Godwin Encaustic Antique Floor Tiles
A rare find of mainly unused (yes, still new) floor tiles from the Godwin factory in Herefordshire.
Individual tiles measure 4" x 4" and can be made up into patterns of 4 measuring 8" x 8".
These were reclaimed from storage in a chapel cellar where they were probably left in the 1950's when the Chapel was refurbished. Presumably these were over ordered at the time.
The Godwin factory closed in the 1970's having made tiles in Herefordshire since 1852. Their strong Gothic revival patterns appealed to architects and designers of the era and Godwin tiles were firm favourites in Churches throughout the nation. Four tiles together invariably made a geometric pattern.
We have 397 of them made up as follows:

Jpeg002 Single flower 40 tiles = 10 patterns
Jpeg003 plain brown 48 tiles
plain black 41 tiles + 58 in halves = 29 tiles.

There are damaged boards but at least 85% of them are fine. Of the damaged ones, none are split but just damaged at ends, so you can cut them down and have perfect boards. Probably more than 95% of this 47 sqm (approx.) surface area is usable.

Reclaimed Oak woodblock parquet flooring. This flooring has had the bitumen removed from the rear. In most cases there will still be a staining of bitumen on the rear of the block, however, there will be no big clumps and you will be able to use almost any adhesive to fit them. The Tops have been sanded to remove the original layer of bitumen from them.

Depth : 3/4'' or 18mm or 2cm Approx Due to the nature of this product, (Reclaimed) there may be a degree of wear on some of the blocks that have been used in high traffic areas (Corridors etc) please ''do'' expect to receive some blocks that vary in thickness, allow at least 10% wastage. We do not mix and match blocks from different projects and the blocks you will receive will be from all the same source. The same goes for all reclaimed flooring.

What is required of these blocks once they are fitted?:
A sand to smooth off the rough pre sanded surface and then the floor will require a finish to go on it; this can be varnish, stain, wax or lacquer.
Cleaning information:
Once your floor is in place it requires little attention. Solid wooden flooring can be treated like any other wooden floor, you can mop it, hover it, brush it etc It can be used in almost every room in the house providing its kept fairly dry and not saturated every day it can also be used in bathrooms, utility rooms and also kitchens.

These square edge boards have been removed from recently demolished terrace houses and Victorian villas. We de-nail them, cut off damaged and split ends and sell them in random lengths.
Once laid and sanded, then polished these boards have a depth of original colour you just cannot get with new flooring. Plenty of knots and nail holes plus stilletto heel marks add to their patina and character.

This is really beautiful wood that you simply cannot get any more - it is now classed as endangered.
As you can see from the photos, these blocks (in our opinion) are in good condition for their age.
As Mentioned above, the blocks measure 8.75" X 2.25" X 0.75" thick with T & G edges and are 100% Solid Wood! We have over 250 sq yards available. We are selling in square yard units which have been hand packed on pallets and shrink wrapped for ease of transportation. A few extra blocks have been thrown in per square yard to allow for any odd reject blocks that may have slipped through the net! It is stored off the ground and under cover and so is dry but as with any timber, we recommend that you store it in situ for approx 2 weeks before laying it to acclimatize to the environment (even though this wood should have done all the moving that it needs to over the years!)
