FREE 'For Sale', 'Recraft' and 'Wanted' ads on SalvoWEB
'For Sale' and 'Wanted' can be placed on SalvoWEB immediately by newly registered users, FREE of charge, provided they are for unique antique, reclaimed, salvaged or recraft items. Rules which apply to free ads can be seen on user registration pages and on ad creation and editing pages. The free system cannot be used for duplicate ads or for business promotions. There is currently no limit on the number of ads a user can create provided they stick to the rules. 'Recraft' is the term given by SalvoWEB to items made from antique, reclaimed or salvaged materials.
How to create a free 'For Sale' or 'Wanted' ad: STEP BY STEP
LOGIN: Log in, or register and log in here, www.salvoweb.com/user.php?login_user=1&
CREATE AN AD: On your control panel click top left 'Create an ad', then choose one of the ad options available and click 'Update' or 'Submit'.
INPUT TEXT DETAILS: Input the text details of the item to be sold.
UPLOAD PHOTOS: Upload up to four photos which must be jpegs of less than 1 MB in size. The photos are resized by the Salvo server software. To get your photos on to the Salvo server, first get them on to your computer, then 'Choose file' and find the jpeg on your computer, then click 'Upload'. Each image can be given a short explanatory caption. These captions are used by Google Images to maximise search traffic which might be looking.
MAKE THE AD LIVE: Review your ad, edit any mistakes, send a test SalvoEMAIL to your own email address, then send a SalvoEMAIL and 'Make the item live!' on SalvoWEB.
Watch out for links to 'Rules' 'Advice' and 'How To'. These will change from time to time, and they may also differ according to user type and ad type.

These ads are charged at 2p or 2c per day. A minimum of £5, $5 or €5 must be added to your user account.

User Created Banners
Cost: The charge for a banner is based on the past 28 days popularity of the page or pages on which it appears. This charge will vary according to the number of visitors which have recently viewed SalvoWEB pages.
User Created Banners can be placed on any page. If your preferred selection already has a banner on it, then you will be offered the next available date. The charge will be based on the popularity of the page on which you wish your banner to appear.
User Created Banners are made from your control panel by filling in a simple form, similar to User created Buttons.

Businesses must sign up to the Salvo Code before they can have a home page button on SalvoWEB. Each home page button appears on both the UK and international home pages. Between 10 per cent - 20 per cent of all visitors to SalvoWEB visit the home pages. A build-a-button is created very simply online on SalvoWEB by a user and links to a web page. See live examples here Buckinghamshire FOR SALE pages.
Each button is set to local, regional, national or international. If the user is in Buckinghamshire and the button is set to local then it would only appear in Buckinghamshire. If the button is set to regional, then it would appear in Buckinghamshire and all the surrounding counties. If it set to national it will appear on all county pages throughout the UK. International buttons are located outside the user's own country and can be localised to state or county level within that country. For example, a UK user can set a button to appear throughout the whole USA or just in California.

Payment online is by credit card or Paypal or payment can be made by phone to 020 8400 6222.
Monthly stats for clickthrus and daily payment statements can be seen via the clickthru tab on the button control panel.
Multiple clickthrus from one IP address in a single day will register as a single clickthru.
When the credit runs out your button will no longer be live on SalvoWEB but you will be emailed to ask if you wish to top up your funds.
Click on 'Clickthru graph' to see your monthly stats, and go 'Back to main menu' and click 'Your account' to see daily spend.
Salvo Directory Entries
Cost to UK businesses: 2p per day, £7.32 per year, inc VAT.
Cost outside UK: mainly FREE, but payment of 2c a day sometimes required in USA and Europe.
Entries in the online Salvo Directory are free for Salvo Code businesses and Salvo magazine subscribers. In regions outside the UK, existing entries are free, some new entries are free and some cost 2c a day.

Enhanced Listings Cost £30 inc vat for one week
Enhanced listings appear for a week or longer on the home pages of SalvoWEB sites, at the top of the listings pages and at the top of the category listings. Enhanced listings can be used to 'refresh' an old ad by bringing it to the top of the listings again. Enhanced listings added by other users afterwards will move to the top of the enhanced listing list and push yours down the listings but yours will always appear above normal listings until the week is up. When the enhanced listing expires the ad will be removed from the Salvo home page list and will begin to slide back down the normal listings again.

Salvo maintains monthly statistics of visitors using a combination of Google Analytics and Webalizer. The stats show that for November 2009 salvoweb.com and salvo.co.uk received 241,000 visitors, while the new USA site salvo.us received 1,300 visitors.

UK and international advertising law
Advertisements on SalvoWEB come in many forms submitted by many different types of user. Some ads are published on Salvo by private individuals wishing to buy something for their own use or sell surplus goods. Some ads are published by traders. Some ads are published by private individuals who have a weekend business, some ads are published by professionals acting as agents. SalvoWEB is viewed and used in 40 countries, although most users are UK-based.
Every advertiser on SalvoWEB has to register, and agree to a simple declaration stating whether they are 'private' or not. Non-private ads are described in small brown type under each 'for sale' or 'wanted' ad, e.g. 'Antiques/Reclamation trade'.
The UK Business Advertisement (Disclosure) Order 1977 requires all advertisements by people who seek to sell goods, in the course of a business, to make that fact clear. It is the responsibility of the advertiser to comply with this law.
Many countries have similar laws to the UK one above, so we ask any advertiser in any country to make the same declaration as a UK advertiser. Salvo is not familiar with consumer and business law in each of the 40 countries in which users operate, but if any user would like more conditions attached to the new registration page please contact Salvo using the message box on most SalvoWEB pages.
Value Added Tax
Advertisements are subject to VAT in the UK. In Europe, VAT registered businesses who supply their VAT number to Salvo need not pay UK VAT.
XML Data Transfer
XML Feeds are a way to connect one web database to another. They are used by Salvo to allow a dealer with a web stock database to post stock items from their database on to SalvoWEB. The data transfer normally takes place once every 24 hours between 1am and 5am. The dealer chooses which items they wish to appear on SalvoWEB when they put items on to their own database. If they then change that data, or remove the stock item when it is sold, then the same item on SalvoWEB is also changed or removed. See examples of XML items on SalvoWEB from Bingley Antiques in West Yorkshire UK. Once an item appears on SalvoWEB it is fully searchable by Google.
Prices for XML items on SalvoWEB
Salvo makes a one-off charge of £110 to help set up the XML feed usually in conjunction with the dealer's own web team. We can do all the work if this is more convenient. Salvo then charges per XML item per day for items on SalvoWEB that are transferred by that XML feed. The cost is calculated on a daily basis. A credit account is set up into which a deposit is made and this is reduced by £0.01p per XML item per day, including VAT.
