Free Ads on SalvoWEB
Ads are free on SalvoWEB for unique antique, reclaimed and salvaged For Sale and Wanted ads. Ads are also free for upcycled old items or materials which have been used to make new items.
Shopping lists of a mixture of wanted items are free for private users or professional specifiers. Shopping lists for dealers or general wanted ads must be Featured Ads which cost $30 per week.
Paid Ads on SalvoWEB cost 2c per day
New, replica and reproduction items cost 2c per day
Demolition, dismantling or deconstruction alerts for items which are in-situ cost 2c per day
Theft alerts cost 2c per day.
A minimum of $5 must be added to your user account. Funds can be added online using a PayPal account, or by credit or debit card online via PayPal.
How to create a SalvoWEB Ad
1. Register here link to the registration and login page.
2. Choose the ad type, or on your user control panel click 'Create an ad', then choose one of the ad options available.
3. Step 1: Input the text details of the item. Please read the rules and advice notes. After 'Continue' has been clicked your ad will be 'Pending'.
4. Step 2: Upload a main photo and up to three additional photos. These must be jpegs of less than 2MB. To place a photo 'Choose file' and find the jpeg on your computer, then click 'Upload'. Each image can be given a short caption. Google indexes the captions and images. You can request Google not to index your image.
5. Step 3: Review your ad, edit any mistakes, send a test SalvoEMAIL to your own email address, then send a SalvoEMAIL and 'Make the item live!' on SalvoWEB. This will move your ad from 'Pending' into 'Live'.
Rules for Classified Ads
Look for the 'Rules' 'Advice' and 'How To' links on 'Step 1' of 'Create an ad'. Important rules are that free ads must not duplicate one of your earlier ads, businesses cannot use free ads for general business promotions, all ads must be in plain English, with upper and lower case text and without multiple funny characters, and photos must not show recognisable human faces or pets. There is currently no limit to the number of live ads which user may have. Ads must be removed by the user as soon as the item is no longer available.

Featured Ads

Featured Ads on SalvoWEB cost $30 per week
Featured Ads are pinned to the SalvoWEB home page, at the top of the ads pages. Featured Ads are used to bring old ads back to the the top of the ads pages again. When a Featured Ad lapses it will be removed from the SalvoWEB home page and will start to move back down the ads list again. Featured Ads cost $30 per week and can be booked for up to four weeks.

How to turn an ad into a Featured Ad
1. Log in to your control panel. Make sure you have at least $30 in your user account. Funds can be added online using a PayPal account, or by credit or debit card online via PayPal.
2. Find the existing ad, or create a new ad.
3. On 'Step 1' halfway down the page tick the tick box to create the Featured Ad, and choose a radio button for the number of weeks.
4. Go to 'Step 3' and confirm the payment to make the Featured Ad live.

Free Salvo Directory Listings

What is a Salvo Directory listing?
The Salvo Directory is the most comprehensive list of the world's dealers in architectural salvage and reclaimed building material. Any business which buys or sells architectural antiques, garden antiques, decorative interior antiques, reclamation materials, demolition salvage, or which recrafts or upcycles old items into new ones, is eligible for a Salvo Directory listing. Craftspeople and restorers may also have listings. In addition, the Salvo Directory lists heritage organisations, places to visit, reclamation-friendly professionals, architects, landscapers and designers, demolition dismantling and deconstruction contractors, crime prevention and police forces. Businesses may be commercial profit-making or social enterprise not-for-profits.

An example of a directory listing for a Salvo Code dealer with the Salvo Code crane logo is shown in the graphic above. Although we encourage dealing businesses to sign up to the Salvo Code it is not mandatory in order to have a Salvo directory listing although every registered user must agree to a simple statement which promises that they own goods which they are selling, or have a right to act for the seller.

A Salvo Directory listing contains:
Business name or name of sole trader.
Telephone number - landline or mobile or both.
Fax number
Address - which may be kept private if it is a private house.
A brief and simple business description. Superlatives may not be used, such as 'we are the best' 'biggest' 'fantastic' and so on.
A main photo of your premises, showroom, shop or yard, or your crafts activity, and up to three additional photos.

Facebook page
Twitter page
eBay shop
YouTube account Flickr, Pinterest or other photo gallery Blog or news pages.

    Home page buttons can be seen at the top of the SalvoWEB US home page at www.salvo.us. All buttons link directly to the website of the button holder. The file format can be a jpg, gif or png. No animations. Artwork can be supplied by customer or Salvo will prepare artwork.

    Standard Banners

    About standard banners
    Standard banners can be pre-designed and uploaded, or they can be created online using the Salvo DIY banner creation software. The banners can be booked on any 'For Sale' or 'Directory' page or group of pages. The charge is based on the previous 28 days popularity of the pages on which the banner will appear and varies according to the number of visitors which have viewed them. Banners will click through to a user's own website. Pre-designed banners must be 800px wide, 120px high, file format png jpg or gif, and not animated.

    How to create and place a standard banner
    Register as a new user, or login if you are already registered.
    On the 'Control Panel' click 'Banners' then 'Add new banner'
    Step 1 - Design your DIY banner using SalvoWEB's easy design form - choose size, text, colours OR upload a pre-designed banner
    Step 2 - Decide where on SalvoWEB you want your banner to appear. You will be informed of cost before making a commitment.
    Step 3 - Pay some money into your Salvo account (minimum $5)
    That's it. Your banner will now be live on SalvoWEB.

    Standard buttons

    About standard page buttons
    Standard buttons can be by created online by users and are charged per clickthru. Each standard button links to a web page. See the screenshot above for a group of DIY buttons on a SalvoWEB 'For Sale' page. Each button is either statewide, statewide and surrounding states, national or international relative to the user's address.
    Standard buttons can be small or large, and the cost per clickthru is the same for both.

    Small standard buttons are 80 pixels wide by 31 pixels high (above left). Salvo Code businesses' standard buttons are 105px wide and include the crane logo (above right).

    Large buttons are 172 pixels wide by 31 pixels high (above left). Large buttons for Salvo Code businesses are 197px wide and include the crane logo (above right).
    Local buttons - If the user is located in Massachusetts, and the button is set to 'local', then the button would only appear on Massachusetts pages. Local clickthrus cost 5c each.
    Regional buttons - If the button is set to 'regional', then it would appear in Massachusetts and the surrounding states. A clickthru in Massachusetts would be charged at the 'local' rate of 5c, while a clickthru in one of the surrounding states would be charged at the 'regional' rate of 10c.
    National buttons - If a button is set to 'national' it will appear on all US states. Clickthrus would be charged at the 'national' rate of 20c per clickthru, except for 'regional' clicks around the user's home state at 10c per clickthru, and the user's home state which is charged at the 'local' rate of 5c per clickthru.
    International buttons - International buttons appear on For Sale and Wanted SalvoWEB pages outside the U.S.A. and can be localised to state or county level within that country. For example, a US user could set a 'Wanted' button to appear throughout the whole UK or just in one UK county such as Warwickshire. International clickthrus cost 40c each.

    How to create and place a button

    Clickthru charges for a standard button
    The clickthru charge is identical for large or small buttons.

    Payment online is by credit card or debit card via Paypal, or via user's own PayPal account, or an account top-up payment can be made by a phone call to Salvo. When the credit runs out your button will no longer be live on SalvoWEB but you will be emailed to ask if you wish to top up your funds.

    Monthly clickthrus can be seen via the 'Clickthru graph' tab on the button control panel. Go to control panel, buttons, then choose 'View/Edit' a button, then click 'Clickthru graph' tab.

    Above is a typical button clickthru graph. Multiple clickthrus from one IP address in a single day will register as a single clickthru. Clickthrus from known search engines will not be charged. IP addresses of every clickthru are logged and can be seen by going to the 'Control Panel' and 'Your Account', choose a month, then choose 'Single' next to a day's button charges. This will give you a list showing each button clicked and the IP address of the clicker.

    International advertising laws
    Advertisements on SalvoWEB come in many forms submitted by many different types of user. Some ads are published on Salvo by private individuals wishing to buy something for their own use or sell surplus goods. Some ads are published by traders. Some ads are published by private individuals who have a weekend business, some ads are published by professionals acting as agents. SalvoWEB is viewed and used in 40 countries, although most are UK-based.

    Every advertiser on SalvoWEB has to register, and agree to a simple declaration stating whether they are 'private' or not. The user type is described in small brown text under each classified 'For Sale' or 'Wanted' ad, e.g. 'Antiques/Reclamation trade' or DIYer/Private'.

    The UK Business Advertisement (Disclosure) Order 1977 requires all advertisements by people who seek to sell goods, in the course of a business, to make that fact clear. It is the responsibility of the advertiser to comply with this law. Many countries have similar laws to the UK one above, so we ask any advertiser in any country to make the same declaration as a UK advertiser. Salvo is not familiar with consumer and business law in each of the 40 countries in which users operate, but if any user would like more conditions attached to the new registration page please contact Salvo using the message box on most SalvoWEB pages.
